
How Much Does it Cost to Learn English in Edinburgh?
Are you coming to Scotland to learn English but have no idea about the cost of living in Edinburgh? These indications may give you an idea of what to expect during your stay at inlingua Edinburgh (Prices January 2014):
Mobile Phone on a 12 Month Contract
From around 20 GBP per month with a free phone and inclusive call minutes and texts (pay as you go phones are also available and more flexible for shorter stays)
Food and Drinks
- Two course meal : from approx 10 GBP for a main and starter or dessert, drinks extra
- Lunch at a cafe: approx 4-6 GBP for a sandwich, apple and a drink
- Bottle of fizzy drink: around 1 GBP
- Pint of beer or glass of wine: approx 3 GBP and 4.50 GBP respectively
- Coffee to take away : approx 2 GBP
Going Out
- Cinema ticket: From 7 GBP (most cities) to 15 GBP but can be cheaper at certain times (e.g. afternoon shows)
- Entrance to nightclub: From 4-20 GBP, depending on night and venue
- Ticket for a concert: From 10-50 GBP, depending on the artist and the venue
Supermarket
In the city centre you can find different supermarkets in which prices vary:
- Cheap and basic food: Lidl, Aldi
- Good quality at acceptable prices: Tesco, Sainsbury's, Scotmid
- Premium: Marks & Spencer, Waitrose
Bus pass
Edinburgh has an excellent and frequent bus service. A weekly pass is £17 (as per January 2014) and a monthly pass is £51. There is a one off £3 fee to issue your bus pass (including photo).
