Transport in Edinburgh
Public Transport
Edinburgh has an extensive bus service throughout the city and the Lothians and is the perfect way to practice your newly learned English. A single ticket (price £1.50) is ideal if you are only making one or two journeys a day and can be bought on the bus from the bus driver. The exact change is needed for the fare as they do not have access to cash or give change.
A day ticket (price £3.50) is perfect if you are making 3 or more journeys in a day as this ticket gives you unlimited travel on the buses for the full day. Like single tickets, you can purchase this ticket on the bus from the first bus driver. Thereafter, you must simply show your day ticket to the driver of the buses you board. This type of ticket can also be purchased online at Lothian Buses from the Travelshops or the Online Shop.
Weekly tickets cost £17 and a monthly ticket £51. There is also a £3 card issue fee
Ridacard is the best option for regular bus travel as the more you travel the more you can save. Adult 1-week, 4-week, annual and direct debit options are all available. Also worth noting is that Ridacard also allows you travel on the airport bus called AIRLINK at no extra charge, and a discount is available on Night Buses 7 days a week.
A City Single Ticket is like a single ticket but without searching for loose change! There are available as a pack of 20 tear-off tickets for single journeys. When you board the bus, you must show the bus driver both sides of the ticket before placing it in the red fares box. The driver will then issue you with a ticket valid for travel.
